Robert Emerson Williams III received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the California College of the Arts and his Master of Fine Arts degree from Kent State.
His body of work ranges from “Join a Movement” (1982)—an installation for which he created graphics and artifacts chronicling the rise of an imaginary fascist movement here in the United States—to a mixed media construction executed during an artists residency, working with an NYU neuroscientist exploring the nature of memory in 2017.

In addition he has spent extended periods drawing from the figure inspired by time spent traveling through Italy in the mid 1990’s, while thirty years in publishing here in New York City has helped to shape and refine his graphic and typographic skills.

Currently Robert maintains a studio in the historic Carpet Mills Arts District in Yonkers, New York where he is developing a project called “The New Adventures of Spatchcock Jones.” It is one part political allegory, one part exploration of the history of cartooning, and provides him with a platform to observe and analyze our present social and political landscape.

His skills and interests may appear to be diverse but they share a common epistemological root. How do we know anything and by extension, how do we know what is true.
